Making Book Clasps

Here's my latest addiction: making my own book clasps! I've been searching for them for ages, craved for those in old books, but never actually tried to make my own until now. Obviously, I have absolutely no experience with metal work and it wasn't that easy until I got the first one right. I only had available some basic tools like scissors and rasps for metal so everything is really handmade :) But I was dreaming of trying this since some time now and meanwhile I kept collecting every bit of metal that I thought might come handy one day. So here are my first trials, made of brass.

oh. my. god. Teo, your book clasps are incredible!!!! And the new book you made, I'm swooning! The cover is simply gorgeous and the clasp adds the perfect touch! If the book makes it to your etsy shop, it might just have to come home with me ;)

A real multi tasker woman is you, my dear friend Teo! It's wonderful you are making these yourself. I love to work with metal too. Infact I found this really amazing stuff called Renaissance Wax and I recommend it if you like to work with metal things. It's incredible and a little goes a long way! You probably already have a jar, right? Since we seem to have the same bottles and potions!! ;D I love what you are creating with these clasps, very olde Italian style - just beautiful! Make sure you put your price on it!!!!!!

Paula, heheee I was just thinking to come to you for some info and advice!! You are the master and my metal work guru :D

Thanks for the tip, Louise! I don't have the original Renaissance Wax but a local label for museum uses that goes on pretty much everything. Composition should be similar but when this one finishes for sure I'm gonna buy the real stuff!
