It's been too long since I haven't painted. At least on something other than my books :) One of my early fascinations was illuminated manuscripts. Many years ago I made copies from Byzantine manuscripts and had them exhibited in club from Lucerne, Switzerland. With help from my friends in two weeks I sold almost all my works. It was such a great experience for me at that time, as I was a fresh graduate from university. Now, the preparations for the medieval fair opened my appetite for medieval manuscripts again. So I made these small reproductions from the Bestiary of Aberdeen, an English manuscript from around 1200 available online here.
I really enjoyed to paint these details. The copies measure around 4 x 4 inches and are painted in egg tempera on golden leaf.
And below, a few archive images that I am lucky to still have. They are from the expo in Lucerne in 2003. All I had at that time was a floppy-disk Mavica that did its best :)

you are wicked talented. i can't believe how cool this is. i love it!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Paula! Funny, that's exactly how I feel about YOUR work!!!
ReplyDeleteUnbelievable just Unbelievable
ReplyDeleteMark, thanks so much for your kind comments and for checking back with my blog!
ReplyDeleteYour work is so beautiful Teo! Imagine what you could create if you combined these with your books - you'd sell masterpieces! (more than you already are... ahem...) why don't you sell some on Etsy? They are amazing....
ReplyDeleteLovely stuff! I adore this sort of illumination. Hope your birthday was wonderful.
ReplyDeleteYou are so incredibly talented, Teo!! I've always loved illuminated manuscripts, and I second Louise's idea to sell your illustrations in your shop! I'd be the first in line! Beautiful beautiful work :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, girls :) Great feedback! Yes, I thought about selling them online although I don't know if they would sell on Etsy. I have the impression that the painting department is really saturated. And about combining them with my work, mmm, I confess it also crossed my mind... but imagine how much work that would be. I'd love to, for the right price :)
ReplyDeleteApparently - the top seller on Etsy is an artist - a painter, in fact...
