Yesterday was the Chestnut Fair here in Portugal. Traditionally, we cook chestnuts and drink 'jeropiga', which is a strong sort of wine. We cooked ours in the fireplace :)
You should try then! Here we use to eat them a lot. I only like them made in the fire, but people boil them as well. In fact they should have been cooked on a charcoal fire rather than in flames but they were tasty anyway.

ReplyDeleteOh, I miss the European chestnuts!! The chestnuts we get here in the U.S. are not nearly as large, nor as creamy once cooked...
